A-Gas Showcases Practical Pathways for Refrigerant Management at MOP37

Nairobi, Kenya, October 2025. At the 37th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (MOP37), A-Gas will highlight the critical role of Lifecycle Refrigerant Management (LRM) in achieving immediate, scalable and cost-effective climate mitigation.

Refrigerants, vital for cooling systems worldwide, are also among the most potent greenhouse gases. A-Gas will demonstrate how LRM advances the circular economy of refrigerants around the globe through recovery, reclamation and destruction (where reclamation is no longer viable) and prevents the release and harmful environmental impact of refrigerant emissions while securing refrigerant banks necessary for maintaining equipment to cool communities and industries.

A Practical Climate Solution

Lifecycle Refrigerant Management is a proven, near-term strategy to address short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) such as HFCs, which have atmospheric lifetimes of 10-20 years and global warming potentials thousands of times higher than CO₂. By integrating refrigerant management into national climate strategies, countries can achieve measurable results within a decade, bridging the gap toward 2030 and 2050 targets.

Economic and Social Co-Benefits

A-Gas will host a side event at MOP37, “Making Lifecycle Refrigerant Management Viable: Regional Models, Policy Tools, and Carbon Finance Pathways for Scalable Impact.” During the session, A-Gas will showcase successful regional models from Africa, Asia and Europe that illustrate how Lifecycle Refrigerant Management (LRM) hubs- focused on recovery, reclamation and destruction- can scale rapidly with the right combination of targeted policy measures and finance support.

LRM not only delivers low-cost, high-impact climate mitigation, but also enables:

  • Carbon finance pathways through verified recovery and destruction, generating carbon credits under Article 6 and voluntary markets.

  • Job creation and training for technicians and service providers.

  • Cooling security for critical sectors such as healthcare, food logistics and retail.

Protecting Health and Communities

By conserving refrigerant supply and managing emissions, LRM strengthens public health resilience. Reliable cooling protects populations during extreme heat, preserves food security, and ensures the stability of medical and vaccine cold chains, especially in developing regions most vulnerable to climate impacts.

Policy Alignment and Collaboration

A-Gas’ participation at MOP37 reinforces the company’s alignment with the Montreal Protocol, the Kigali Amendment and the Paris Agreement. Through collaboration with governments and private-sector partners, A-Gas is advancing a self-sustaining model for refrigerant management, integrating policy, finance and technology to drive immediate and scalable action.
