RS-44 (R424A) is a non-flammable blend of R125, R134a, R601a, R600, and R600a. RS-44 is a legacy drop-in replacement for R22 with significantly lower discharge temperatures and pressures, widening the applications for use. RS-44 is being replaced by RS-70 which offer the same zero ODP benefits with higher performance, and lower GWP. RS-44 is compatible with all materials commonly used in refrigeration systems previously charged with R22. In general, materials which are compatible with R22 can be used with RS-44. It is recommended to check equipment manufacturer’s retrofit literature and obtain recommendations from equipment manufacturers with regard to material compatibility.
